STORE aka SIMON BURT (b.1977) AUSTRALIA

Street life spawned of the urban environment, particularly the Hip Hop culture, has been Store's underlying theme throughout his artistic life. It was found out, "The older I got I realised it wasn't all skateboarding, boom boxes and spray cans, there is a real side to life in the city that a lot of people don't like to acknowledge..."

"Store" has been a regular feature on all levels of the street art scene for well over a decade. A Ba. In Visual Communication, he realised that scene would never be the outlet for his ideals and talents so directed his focus to art and apparel (Materialism). A combination of the mixed messages of his youth: hip-hop vs. pop culture induced Store to express his observations of the world around him in a blend of divergent media. This has led to his unique style, which has roots in traditional elements of graffiti and stretches to the finer arts. Work produced includes oils, charcoals, canvasses, paper, sculpture and digital media. Inspired by 80s b-boys customising wears to represent their style, he also works freelance, tricking out furniture, skateboards, clothing and sneakers.

His artistic subjects range from tattooed, jewel-clad femme fatalles to the berated pigeons and skies of levitating octopi. Heavy Latino tattoo inspired script drips across scenes where waif girls meet tentacled shores. Although heavily referencing the materialistic and sordid world of pop culture, Store's world creates a visual juxtaposition of decadence within an underprivileged existence...
